Hakuna Matata & Maasai Corn Maze

Submitted by on October 16, 2011 – 7:38 amNo Comment

Saturday we were able to meet up with the Cook family. The Cooks have spent time in Tanzania with Pamoja and have a great heart for our Maasai friends.

While we didn’t have a performance in the evening, we took the opportunity to have a little fun time. We popped some popcorn, piled onto the couches in the warm basement, and had some relaxed movie time with one of Mathayo’s favorites… The Lion King! After the movie, we shared a meal while watching a slideshow of pictures from Tanzania. The Maasai spent plenty of time pointing out each person they knew and seeing familiar faces.

Then, the Cooks got us bundled up with new tuks and we were off to Chilliwack to have a some fun outside. The sun had finally come out and we were on our way to the Maasai’s (and Natasha’s) first ever corn maze.

They had a big bouncy pumpkin that people could jump on. Quickly, Jeremy grabbed Yona and started jumping with him. Yona’s reaction was similar to his experiences with trampolines and swings, but soon we had him comfortable and he came back for more.

Everyone had a great time running through the maze, getting lost and generally just being like big kids.

Which way to we go?

Off we go...

We found a bridge

Which way did our Maasai go?!

Success! We found our way out!

And then the Cook boys showed Mathayo and Petro how to ride around the dirt track…

Like everywhere else we’ve been, the Maasai were a main attraction and definitely caught the attention of the the maze workers. What we were most surprised to discover is that one of the guys who is a part of the farm/maze has a cousin in Tanzania whom Jeremy actually knows! What a small world! And then, of course, we could leave without singing a little song for everyone.

Thank you Chilliwack Farms and Cook family for a great day of fun! As the Maasai say, you really love us.
