Kindergarten Begins

Submitted by on May 17, 2012 – 9:23 pmNo Comment

Kindergarten is well underway now at the En-kata English Medium Primary School in Orbili, Tanzania, and what a start! On day 1 there were 22 children registered for Kindergarten. By week 2 there were 28. At last check, there were 32. Very soon, the classroom will be full, and children will have to wait until next year. From each of us at Pamoja Ministries and MAPED to each of you who has come, prayed, generously given, and bought the photobook, Thank You.

This is a school that will make a difference. This is not a Western-run school. This is not a mission school. This is a Maasai school. The 15 members of MAPED (8 Maasai men and 7 Maasai women) form the governing body. Asnath Maliaki is the headteacher (she’s Maasai), and she’s teaching Maasai children.

Construction is about to break ground now on the second classroom block. Maliaki sent me an SMS to say that bags of cement have already arrived for the construction.

Construction is almost complete on the first teacher’s housing block.

God is good, and his people have generously done what just a few short years ago had been deemed to be impossible.

Here’s a short video we made about going out to see the school open!

Stay tuned, friends of the En-kata English Medium Primary School! This is just the beginning.
