We’re on a Boat

With the Maasai safely in Vancouver and both vehicles now completely packed full, we started making our way to Victoria, BC. This meant one thing: the Maasai would be riding on their first ferry. A few may have seen/ridden on the small ferry from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar, but definitely never a ferry of this size.

We arrived just a little early, allowing some time to walk around the ferry terminal. As usual, the Maasai were quite the attraction as they walked around to different cars, greeting people and telling them of their upcoming performances in Victoria. Maliaki was already in networking mode as we met a couple who work in Rwanda and another who lives in Uganda. Truly a international melting pot just on one ferry.

In the car, we had discussed that this ferry was BIG, that it had several levels and even a restaurant. But it wasn’t until we were boarding that this reality actually set in. Mathyo’s eyes grew big with excitement. We were driving the car onto the boat. Then, once we were aboard, we were on level 4. Up two more levels and we were standing on the deck.

The Maasai shivered. So cold out on deck. Only little Mathyo was willing to stay out on the deck for the majority of the hour and a half ride to Victoria.

But soon everyone was inside getting warm again
